The Winery & Our Growing Region

The Virgara family initially planted grapes for their own use in 1971, but this soon expanded to supply fruit for major wineries. In 2001, the Virgara family purchased the current winery and moved into commercial winemaking under the Virgara Family Wines label.

Since 2001, they have regularly improved the winery to allow:

 - small batch processing - showing the variation of wines between vintages

 - insulation and temperature control of the tanks - essential to maintain the aromatics in white wine production

Virgara Family Wines produces premium quality traditional varietal wines which capture the terroir (climate, soil and growing conditions) of their Adelaide vineyards.

The winery and vineyards are located in Angle Vale, a small town 35 minutes north of Adelaide. The Adelaide Plains is know for its temperate and ideal maritime Mediterranean climate, where the vines thrive in the mild sunny conditions and rich red soil over limestone.

The fertile soils of the Adelaide Plains, combined with the long sunlit days and cool nights, ensure premium growing conditions for some of the finest grapes and produce in Australia. This now re-emerging region is creating great interest due to the unique, intensely coloured and richly flavoured wines.

For the Virgara family winemaking has always been a family tradition and the Virgara Wines premises at Angle Vale is the tangible proof of their hard work and dedication.
